Mr Ah Kee Wee, Chairman/CEO

Ah Kee has over 20 years of experience in investment banking and building listed companies in the Asia Pacific region.  He had held senior management positions in the stock broking units of major financial institutions including Bankers Trust, Union Bank of Switzerland, Citibank, HSBC, and Peregrine.

He is also an angel investor and serial entrepreneur. In 1995, Ah Kee bought a dormant listed mining company in the Philippines, and transformed it into a dominant player in the
aviation support business servicing clients such as Ogden Aviation of the United States, Eurest and Lufthansa Technik of Europe, Cathay Pacific Catering Services and Singapore Air Terminal Services of Asia. Ah Kee also established an investment holding company in Singapore together with his partners to invest in the e-commerce sector. The company worked with Oracle and PricewaterhouseCoopers to build electronic marketplaces for the food, medical and white goods sectors in Europe and South East Asia.  It also invested in an electronic catalogue company in Bangalore, India, a call center in the Philippines, and an e-learning company in Singapore.

Ah Kee also served as Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of a Hong Kong listed construction and mining company with operations in South East Asia and China.  He was a substantial shareholder of the listed company, which during his tenure, achieved a turnover of HK$1billion.  Before his entrepreneurial activities, Ah Kee held management positions in major financial institutions.  He was with James Capel Securities (now part of HSBC) and Citicorp Vickers Scrimgeours, the stock broking arm of Citibank, developing a brokerage business in the Asean emerging markets.  Prior to his banking career, Ah Kee worked at Temasek Holdings, the investment arm of the Singapore Government.  He was a member of the investment management team of this sovereign investment company. 
 

 
Mr Thomas Tsao

Tom is a co-founder and partner of Gobi Partners. He has over fifteen years of experience in venture capital, fund management and investment banking in China and the United States. As a co-founder of the US$60 million Beijing Technology Development Fund (closed in November 1999), he initiated and structured the first international venture capital fund backed by a Chinese state-owned company, Beijing Enterprises Holdings Limited, and a major Chinese University, Tsinghua University, via its subsidiary Tsinghua University
Enterprise Group.

Tom was also part of the team that made the add-on investment in Commerce One (“C1”) in 1999. He worked closely with C1’s entire senior management team to roll out its Asian strategy. Tom helped architect C1's strategy in Hong Kong by bringing together i-Cable, Sun Hung Kai, Swire, Jardine Matheson, New World, Beijing Enterprises, C1, and WIH to create Asia2B.Elected Chairman of Asia2B, Tom helped recruit the senior management team. In January 2001, Asia2B announced the largest Asian new economy merger at the time, the US$72 million merger between Asia2B and SESAMi.com, the B2B subsidiary of SingTel. Tom also led the investment into MyRice.com, one of China's largest Internet portals, in 2000 and became a member of the Board of Directors.In January 2001, Lycos Asia acquired MyRice.com.

Prior to 1999, Tom was a Director of Investment Banking at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson (China), covering the media and telecommunications sectors.     
 

 
Ms Chu Swee Yeok

Ms Chu is the Chief Executive Officer of EDB Investments Pte Ltd (EDBI), the strategic investment arm of the Singapore Economic Development Board which was set up in 1991. Ms Chu has over 20 years of track record and experience in investments, strategic planning, technology and industry development. She led Bio*One Capital Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of EDBI, as its CEO since 2004. Under her leadership, Bio*One has gained global recognition as the leading biomedical investment company in Asia, managing close to US$800M in
funds with a portfolio of over50 therapeutics, medical technology and services companies worldwide. Besides serving as a director on the board of EDBI, Ms Chu is also on the board of several other companies including Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD), Merlion Pharmaceuticals Pte Ltd, S*Bio Pte Ltd, and Singapore-Suzhou Township Development Pte Ltd.
 

 
Mr Cheng Yang

Mr Cheng Yang is an executive director of Hong Kong listed company United Power Investment Limited.  He is one of the pioneers in the China and Hong Kong media scene. Mr Cheng plays an active role in promoting mandarin films in the international market. He has worked with many production houses from the U.S, Japan, South Korea, France, Singapore, and Taiwan. Some of the outstanding titles he produced include “Purple Butterfly” starring Zhang Ziyi, Nakamura Toru and Li BingBing; and “Subway” starring Tony Leung and Miriam Yeung.
